The Artist’s Profile
A native of Canton,Ms, Gainey called Oxford,Ms and Nashville,Tn his home from 1993-2004. Gainey was a very active musician (a drummer by trade) during those years with bands like: scapegoat,wobitty, Enigma JazzProject, Kudzu Kings, Blue Mountain, Taylor Grocery Band, Cary Hudson, Duff Dorrough, and R.L. Burnside . He toured both nationally and internationally with these artists. An in demand session musician/engineer, Gainey worked on Fat Possum records’ releases : Charles Caldwell “Remember Me”, Robert Belfour “Pushing My Luck”, and a remix of T-Model Ford’s “To the Left To the Right”. Sweet Tea studio included Gainey on Tywanna Jo Baskette “Fancy Blue”, Trent Dabbs “Quite Often”, Tim Seely “Funeral Music”, and 2 Skinnee J’s “Volumizer”. Gainey produced Taylor Grocery Band’s eponymous release, Hallelujah Bums’ eponymous release, multiple releases from Tate Moore (Kudzu Kings), Duff Dorrough’s “If it Ain’t One Thing Its Another”, Jim Ellis’ “Friend Behind Your Back”, and Ron Etheridge’s “A Madman’s Masterpiece “. Gainey has released 4 solo albums recorded in his home studio 2004-present. In 2020, the “Covers” Ep was released to great response. August 2022 will bring Gainey’s 5th release with “Covers and Others”, a 7 song collection of reimagined covers and remixed originals. Singles from this album will be streaming everywhere beginning in July.
